SummertimeJune 30, 2016
Hello my JOYful friends! It's summertime and the livin' is supposed to be easy, according to that lovely old song sung so movingly by Ella Fitzgerald. I've always favored the summer season since childhood as it gave me such a profound sense of lightheartedness and freedom. I was a good student in school and actually enjoyed it for the most part, but fully welcomed the reprieve from lessons and homework each year from June to September. Hide and seek with the neighborhood kids under the stars at night, softball tournaments, barbeques and picnics, swimming at the enormous local town pool, long john popsicles from the Good Humor Man, slip and slide, water balloon fights, trips to the library each week to load up on all the wonderful mysteries and biographies that I didn't have time to read during the school year and more are some of my fondest summertime memories.
I've been strongly directed to take a break just like the old days of summer and am checking in to let you know that I intend to do my best to recharge, refresh, rejuvenate and renew my state of being over the next few weeks. Orders from my "heavenly" friends have been prescribed to resuscitate some of those happy summertime activities to revive my spirit and revitalize my body which have been working overtime for quite a while now. Time for some much needed self-care, peace and quiet plus some plain old fashioned F-U-N!
Well, I'm on board with that and I'm letting go of as many things as I can in my life right now to accomplish that goal - starting with this mini-JOYful Musings edition. A trip with my husband to Bora Bora or Fiji would be delightful, but I think we'll have to settle on finding our own piece of paradise and leisure in our own backyard. Since we live in beautiful, sunny San Diego that won't be such a stretch to achieve. The challenge will be ignoring the usual chores and many household tasks that have been set aside during the past several months of busyness elsewhere, but I'm up for that challenge. In fact I welcome it with open arms as it will help spur me on to victory as I find my way back to the real and JOYful me - the me that has been wondering who turned out the lights!
Perhaps my recollection of childhood summer fun will be your reminder to stop and smell the roses more often, to pay attention when it's time for a break in your routine, maybe to plan a much needed vacation. After all, you're so worth it and I can guarantee you won't regret it!
I will be taking a break from my monthly teleseminar call this July.

Quotes to Ponder
Don't underestimate the value of doing nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering.
Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
I've learned lately that no one is going to hand me a permission slip and tell me to take some time out for me.
I took some time out for life.
~James L. Brooks
... it's important to pay attention when we need a little down time, a change of pace, a break in our routine so that we can maintain our very best selves!
I'm skipping this month's teleseminar, but invite you to mark your calendar for the next call on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016 at 5:30 PM Pacific ... unless I decide to extend my summertime break to forever!!
May each day bring you more JOY, unexpected and happy surprises and...
...the next step for Livin' in the FUN Zone!
