Who Are You Being?September 29, 2015
With the recent passing of one of the most positive and inspirational people in my life, Dr. Wayne Dyer, I would like to honor his memory by re-running a JOYful Musings (formerly known as JOYful News when it was first posted in July of 2009).
His infinite wisdom, love, kindness, support and encouragement will live forever in the hearts and minds of those who followed all he shared with the world through his writings, lectures, movies, workshops and more. I will be forever grateful for the stimulating observations, visions, and powerful understandings which he brought to my life. Dr. Dyer was one of the greatest teachers to appear for me, quite frequently over the years, when I was ready for what he was offering. He turned out to be a staunch ally, a silent partner if you will, and a significant supporter on my path of awakening and growing my soul, becoming more of who I was born to be. I have always deeply resonated with his personal messages and provocative insights. It often seemed as if his words were meant just for me and always appeared exactly when I needed them!
I had the delightful and heartwarming opportunity to hear him speak several times and have a number of his books signed by him. He was very generous and gracious with those who would line up to talk with him for a few moments as he tirelessly autographed and personalized their books. A priceless treasure to take away as a memento of connecting with this remarkable soul.
My original article below was inspired by his teachings and as I share it with you now six years later, I have tweaked and rewritten it just a bit to fit with who I am being today!
"You don't attract what you desire, you attract what you are." ~Dr. Wayne Dyer, from his book, Excuses Be Gone. These particular words transformed my perception and understanding of how who and what we are plays such a prominent role in what shows up in our lives; a powerful impact on my view of how we create with our choices.
If you have a situation in your life which you wish to be different than what it is, stop and consider what you were being prior to the result showing up. For example, let's suppose you just found out that the promotion which you were hoping to get at work went to someone else. You may feel disappointed, unappreciated for your talents and skills or perhaps invisible and discounted. Take a look at how you were feeling about the possibility when it first presented itself. Were you truly hopeful, expectant or excited about the prospect? Or were you doubtful, wondering if you were really qualified, perhaps hesitant about taking on new responsibilities?
Actually, the result being that you did not get the promotion lets you know you were not connected strongly enough to the belief that you could or would get it. You may have been somewhat hopeful, but if your overall energy was predominantly one of doubt, then you could have easily predicted the outcome if you were tuned in and really aware of your predominant ambiguity at the time.
What this scenario shows us is that it is beneficial for us to be mindful of what we are being in the moment we are considering options, changes or possibilities for ourselves. We can choose to be what we want to be in every moment. So, if we find ourselves in uncertainty, we can choose to move into positive anticipation. One powerful way to accomplish this is to begin using "I am" statements", such as "I am expectant and excited about the possibilities ahead." You are powerfully letting the universe know that you choose to connect and be in a state of confidence rather than doubt or fear. That specific affirmation is what will start the energy moving to propel yourself forward with positive intention!
To really anchor in the energy of your vision, imagine what it would feel like when you first learn you've been given the promotion. Make a movie in your mind of how it will be as you step into your new role. Try on your "promotion" suit for size and wear it around your office. If it energizes you, visualize the different tasks you'll be taking on or changes that you may want to implement in your new position.
Another suggestion is to speak or write out the proclamation, "I choose to be expectant of the best and highest outcome for this situation and everyone concerned". This puts you in a state of allowing with ease whatever shows up, trusting things will unfold in an optimum way and not attaching yourself to the outcome.
A powerful declaration of your alignment to the maximum result is to outwardly demonstrate your choice. If you wish to be more abundant, you can begin to give to others what you'd like to see more of in your own life. For example, you might choose an amount of money and gift it to a person or an organization that inspires you or feeds your soul in some capacity.
No matter the choice, it always needs to be done coming from a place of appreciation for the abundance you do possess, knowing more will come to you. You are opening up more fully to the flow of prosperity with your action. But keep in mind that giving money just to get more back, thinking it's what you need to do to make it happen, constricts the flow as you are coming from the position of lack.
The easiest way to attract anything into your life is to strongly connect with the vision of already having it. However, it's good to note if you are trying so hard to stay focused on the end result, you may feel as if you are forcing it into being. You are not truly in alignment with your desire, but actually in a place of "it's an effort to stay focused; this is challenging; this is hard", etc. There is an underlying layer of frustration and doubt in this.
Many have a limiting belief that it must take effort if it's worth having. If this feels familiar, and you are holding this belief, it is most definitely one you will want to release if you'd like to make room for unlimited possibility and potential. When you make the firm decision that you have arrived - you've aligned with your desire, you're already there where your wish has been fulfilled energetically. Now you are a match and lined up with what you want. You are in a relaxed frame of mind which is where attraction is effortless and things show up with ease. If it feels like effort, then it's because you are connecting to struggle, thinking of it as an "Effort" with a capital 'E'!
And you'll continue to struggle if you are thinking it's too hard to focus with ease. Sounds like a Catch 22, but the real key here is to relax and play with it all instead of making it hard work. Release your efforting around any aspect by envisioning 'EASE' as you connect to going with the flow. When you are being who you want to be, the universe has to match your vibration! And it will continually bring you more of what you are being ... it's a simple law of physics and as Dr. Dyer prolifically stated, "You don't attract what you desire, you attract what you are."
If you wish to move into becoming more of who you want to be, lighten up and have fun! Stop trying so hard and just be ...

Results don't come from doing. They come from what we are being.

When you squeeze an orange, orange juice comes out - because that's what's inside. When you are squeezed, what comes out is what is inside.
